Uh oh. There has been a crushing setback for singer John Mayer. Just when things seemed to be cooking for him, with a new album and tour on the immediate horizon, the active-on-social-media guitarist took to his personal Tumblr to reveal some bad news. Mayer visited his throat doctor on Wednesday (March 7) since “something didn’t feel/sound right” during rehearsals on Tuesday (March 6.) It was a bad omen that revealed a big problem.
‘American Idol‘ favorite Phillip Phillips had a bit of a health scare this week. While contestants fainted left and right during the audition rounds and during Group Week in Hollywood, Phillips’ medical malady was not due to stress from the show. He was hospitalized for a pre-existing condition: kidney stones. We’ve never had ‘em ourselves, but by all accounts, they are supposedly one of the most painful things a body can endure.
On Feb. 11, the entertainment world lost an icon, but Whitney Houston‘s immediate family lost their beloved sister and mother. The one and only Oprah Winfrey nabbed the first sit down with the late, great singer’s only daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who turned 19 on March 4.
Oprah also spoke with Houston’s brother Gary and sister-in-law Patricia, the latter of whom served as her manager. The interview special airs Sunday, March 11, exactly one month after Houston’s tragic death, as an ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’ episode on OWN.
Tonight (Feb. 29) marked the second live performance episode of ‘American Idol‘ Season 11. All the girls performed this evening, with only half able to go through to next week. It was another mixed bag of talent, with country gals and torch singers sharing the stage. We also tried to keep track of how many times Randy Jackson said “Yo” but it was futile. It’s like every other word.
The 42-contestant herd on ‘American Idol‘ is being thinned out to 24: 12 girls, 12 guys. The final 24 will perform for the first time at the live shows next week. Can you believe we are already at the live shows, ‘Idol’ watchers?
Bruno Mars was the first pop act to perform at the 2012 Grammy Awards and the second performer overall, following classic rock legend Bruce Springsteen, who opened the show. Mars rocked his way through ‘Runaway Baby’ with a classic, Rat Pack energy. His performance was inspired by another era. But that’s what Mars does so well. He even busted out a golden megaphone mid-set, too.
Whitney Houston‘s death may have hit her fans and ex-husband Bobby Brown hard, but perhaps no one is more devastated at Houston’s tragic passing at the age of 48 than her teenage daughter and sole offspring Bobbi Kristina.
Katharine McPhee‘s new NBC series ‘Smash‘ kicks off tonight at 10PM ET on NBC and this beautiful and talented former ‘American Idol‘ contestant gets to perform originals and covers on the series. There is always at least one original on the show and a few covers, which must be artistically fulfilling for her as the star.
