Born in Seattle, raised in Montana, I fell in love with radio when I was in high school. Not just radio, but the idea of “being on the radio!” When the college students went home for the summer I got to run the local 10-watt operation on the local campus! Auditions were held and at age 16 I got my own radio show. It was only three hours a week and for no pay, but it was just the experience I needed to get on a local professional station and actually get paid for it! Over the years, radio has shown me the great United States of America, landing jobs from Orlando, Florida, to Wasilla, Alaska, including Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and the legendary W4 Country in Detroit. I love it!

This year is the 75th anniversary of the Leica Freedom Train -- an impressive effort by the Leitz optics company to ship hundreds of Jewish families out of Nazi Germany. Upon safe arrival, the refugees would check in with the local Leitz office where they would receive a free Leica camera and a stipend until they found work. Many used the camera to make income.

My wife loves making holiday goodies and it's one of my favorite parts of Christmas. But we'd never think of making our own candy canes. Turns out for good reason!
