I would love to take my kids to a ghost town this summer and do a shootout with some fake guns. We'll probably go to Garnet, Montana. It's a great, touristy ghost down about 4 hours from Coeur d'Alene -- exactly what I'm looking for. Here's a long list of other ghost towns within 2-3 hours:

Warning: what some consider ghost towns is not what everyone considers ghost towns. Sometimes places that used to be bigger than they are make the list. You may show up and find several dozen people living there with a local grocery store and gas station and think, "Why did this make the list?" Other places were once a town, and now they're LONG GONE. There's nothing to see. For example, Ainsworth (where east Pasco is now) and Hanford/White Bluffs made the list, but you wouldn't call those ghost towns.

Do do research before making the drive!
