Best + Worst Dressed of the Week: Jennifer Aniston, Kat Von D, Selena Gomez + More

It may be spring, but celebs were out and about this week in lots of black. Then again, black is universal and works for almost any season, although not in every style.

For example, Jennifer Aniston was a big winner this week in black shorts, while Selena Gomez was a golden goddess. Sadly, Kat Von D donned an unfortunate catsuit, while Ashley Olsen was swallowed by a camel-colored coat. And of course we have another poorly chosen non-maternity Kim Kardashian ensemble.

The Best:

Jennifer Aniston

Black is a familiar color for Aniston, but she surprised us with her shorts and Dior tuxedo bustier, which boasted an unusual square bodice. It almost looked like a strapless mini. Reaction from the fashion critics was mixed, but when you have her body, you can get away with this.

Rashida Jones

The quirky actress was darling in a black Temperley London frock with pockets and a criss-crossed straps. Pockets are always tricky to pull off since they add width to a silhouette, but she owned it. A swipe of scarlet on her lips added just the right amount of pop.

Selena Gomez

The singer/actress/former love of Justin Bieber dazzled in a gilded, fringed Julien McDonald ensemble at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, where we think she was the best-dressed of the night.

She balanced the structure of the mini with a messy fishtail braid. The silhouette elongates her frame and the curves of her legs. Seriously, though, a 20-year-old should not be allowed to be this sexy.

You done messed up by letting this one go, Biebs.

Gwyneth Paltrow + Kate Hudson

The blonde beauties were visions in different shades of blue to the Tiffany Blue Book Ball in NYC on April 18.

Gwynnie may annoy nutritionists and the general public, but she knows how to turn heads with her fashion choices at galas. We can't deny -- even though we wanted to -- that the WASP queen was striking in her blue satin Ralph Lauren gown.

Meanwhile, K. Hud's soft, icy blue Reem Acra dress was delicate and ripe for spring.

Carey Mulligan

Like Aniston's outfit, Mulligan's Victoria Beckham pantsuit is dividing fashion critics, but we're feeling it.

The seemingly plain black suit is upscaled via the cutouts. The jacket is also nebulous, and it appears as though she has a sweater or some sort of cape draped over her shoulders -- all the while looking like a jacket with the deep V and long lapels, which dress it up.

It's an optical illusion, which means it's a complicated and artful shape. We love when fashion plays mind games and tricks our eyes. What's more, Mulligan committed to the stark look by going largely makeup-free and with a pushed back, bleached blonde 'do.

The Worst:

Ashley Olsen

As we've mentioned before, the Olsen twins win design awards for their high-end line The Row, and their contempo brand Elizabeth + James is to die for. So why do the twins themselves insist on dressing their own petite bodies like bag ladies?

Ashley is drowning in a camel-colored coat -- and in April. It's been chilly, but this is a coat best left to January. It's meh thanks to the manly loafers and chinos. The only thing Ashley works here are the cat-eyed sunnies.

Kat Von D

The celeb tattooist usually get a pass since she's a bit of a fashion rebel with the face tattoos and rocker style. But we can't forgive this semi-sheer satiny one-piece with a zip front. Is she part of a NASCAR pit crew?

Even worse, the gold sandals, which are shaped like coiling snakes, are all wrong. If she wore motorcycle boots with this, we might have looked the other way. (We said "might.")

Kim Kardashian

Another week, another Kardashian maternity mess. This divine and decadent red lace dress would look great on her sisters Kourtney or Khloe -- since, you know, they aren't pregnant. Kim's makeup and red lips are gorgeous. We just wish she'd acknowledge she's knocked up and dress for it instead of against it.
