Beyonce fans got more than one surprise on Saturday night (April 23). Not only did the pop superstar release a new album without warning, she also included a country song among the new tracks.

The new album is titled Lemonade, and Beyonce dropped it on unsuspecting fans right after airing an HBO special on Saturday evening that featured clips of some of the songs from the project. Releasing surprise albums is getting to be a habit for the singer, who did the same thing with her self-titled album in 2014.

Lemonade includes 12 new tracks, and Beyonce's big country moment comes at the halfway point of the project. "Daddy Lessons" is the sixth song, and while it's certainly not straight traditional country by any stretch of the imagination, it definitely slants toward country influences. With its fierce female empowerment message, the song wouldn't be out of place at contemporary county radio.

“Came into this world / Daddy’s little girl / And daddy made a soldier out of me …" Beyonce sings to open "Daddy Lessons."

The chorus could just as easily come from a new song from Miranda Lambert or Carrie Underwood, both of whom have left an ever-growing body count of ill-intentioned men in their wake at country radio: “And he taught me to be strong / He told me when he’s gone / Here’s what you do / When trouble comes in time / And men like me comes around / Oh, my daddy said shoot / Oh, my daddy said shoot.”

Fans reacted with overwhelming praise on Twitter, posting their view that Beyonce can seemingly do anything she sets her mind to -- even country music. Lemonade is currently available for streaming exclusively via TIDAL.
