Richland parents don't want their kids going to Chief Joseph Middle School because that's where the poor kids and minorities are. The school has a stigma. According to the story in the Tri-City Herald, the school district has hired great staff at the school. The only difference is the student body. My wife is about to spend $400 on a pair of sneakers because that's what her son wants for Christmas. It's not unusual for families to drop $1,000 per kid on Christmas. I think that's absurd! We didn't have a lot of money growing up, but we didn't lack either. I think Christmas has become too commercialized. We can only blame ourselves for that if we're spending a huge percentage of our annual salary on stuff our kids will only use or play with for a couple of hours. Sometimes it feels like a dump truck full of money. How much do you think is TOO much to give gives for Christmas?
