Last week police found hiding places in a Moses Lake neighborhood and waited to see if a car thief showed up. He did, with stolen property in his pockets along with drugs, knives and a fake gun.

According to the Columbia Basin Herald, there have been a string of car break-ins in Moses Lake so the police planned a sting operation to smoke out the perpetrator. About 6:40 a.m. Saturday morning deputies were hiding in the 1200 block of Arnold Drive to try to catch a suspect prowling cars, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office. While hiding, they saw a 17-year-old boy attempt to enter two locked cars. The deputies emerged from their hiding spots and arrested the boy. They reportedly found methamphetamine, marijuana, three knives and a toy handgun on the boy.

The boy was booked into the Grant County Youth Service facility in Ephrata.
