Here’s a challenge. Go to your favorite search engine and enter the terms “dog costume.” Hit the search button. (That’s the easy part.) Now, try to choose just a handful of the cutest photos of dogs in costumes. Can’t do it, can you? It’s impossible to choose a few of the cutest from the gazillions of adorable photos of dressed up dogs on the internet. It’s like making ‘Sophie’s Choice,’ except without all the Nazis.

Because Saturday is National Dress Up Your Pet Day, we’ve done the impossible and, as painful as it was, we have chosen just a few of our favorite dressed up dogs so you don’t have to.

Fancy Date Dogs

Dressing your dogs to the K-9s for a night on the town is a great way to make them feel extra special. Just don’t expect them to sip from a wine glass or not lick themselves at the table.

Pug Cleverly Disguised As A…Pug

The dog is already a pug, so of course, putting a pug costume on him is the best idea. Brought to you by the Department of Repetitive Redundancies.

The Dog-tor Is In

This Dogtor of Obedience even comes with his own credentials. Although, we don’t suggest allowing him to put a tongue depressor in your mouth.

‘WTF’ Dog

There’s no need to be literal for National Dress Up Your Pet Day. Be creative and do something abstract if you’d like. Maybe even let the dog pick out the costume. (That’s about the only way to explain this one. Is it a crocodile? The Loch Ness Monster? Only the owner knows.)

Hello Kitty Dog

Just, please, do not make your dog dress up as the world’s most famous kitty outside of Garfield. It’s a quick way to make his bite worse than his bark.

Dog or Hotdog?

Nothing makes the family pet feel more loved than to be dressed as something you may want to eat later. Clearly.

Protest Dog

Dogs like to make a statement too, so if you have a protest to attend, like this woman did, color your dog and get him dressed for the event. Give that pooch a voice, even if it means dying his fur. Just make sure he agrees with your cause. Dogs can be really apathetic when it comes to politics.

CelebriDog

Even celebrities like to get in the spirit by dressing up their dogs. After all, no pampered pooch would be caught dead walking the red carpet in the nude. ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ cast mate Lisa Vanderpump brought the VanderPup with her to many red carpet events in 2011, each time in a different tux. Attention Andy Cohen — give this dog a spin-off!

Even the Cat?

Be careful. Cats don’t like being dressed up as much as dogs.

Perhaps this man misunderstood and thought it was National Dress Up Like Your Pet Day. Let’s hope he’s had all his shots.
