A United Airlines pilot decided to do an emergency landing during a flight from Houston to Portland because an Autistic 15-year-old girl was acting up. Is it fair?

According to the mom, the family was returning from Disney World last week when the teen began acting strangely, including making wailing or moaning noises.

The mom realized she was hungry and notified the flight attendant. Because of the autism, the girl is a picky eater so mom asked to purchase a first-class meal. When the attendant said no, the mom warned her the strange behavior could escalate and the girl become violent. The attendant agreed to the first-class meal and then told the pilot the passenger might become violent.

The pilot arranged for an emergency landing in Colorado and forced the family off the plane.

FOR: The mom is saying she and her husband had the situation under control. It was the flight attendant's lack of understanding that caused a problem. The teen's noises were no worse than a crying baby.

Was this a lack of understanding and empathy towards Autism or a pilot acting cautiously to protect passengers?
