The Tri-City Herald Reported: Kennewick firefighters work to extinguish a blaze behind a heat pump outside the Dogs’ Best Friend groomery at 4415 W. Clearwater Ave.

A passerby, Jim Rieger, 45, of Kennewick, was walking past the business in the Crossroads Mall across from WinCo, when he spotted flames coming from behind the heat pump. He alerted people working inside and a neighboring businessman helped douse the fire with water before fire crews arrived. TRI-CITY HERALD

‘Dancing With The Stars’ finalist Katherine Jenkins talked with Big Jim and Stacy Lee this week about making it past the first round and visiting Afghanistan.

Jenkins is definitely a woman of many talents: she’s got one of the sexiest voices today, is the world’s most prolific classical crossover artist AND is one of the three celebrity finalists on “Dancing with the Stars.”

Katherine is also known for her long-standing work with the British Forces Foundation, for which she is a trustee and has made various trips to Iraq and Afghanistan to entertain troops.

Check out the interview below. Jenkins reveals she didn’t think she’d make it past the first round and jokes about how her voice, which Jim can’t get enough of, makes it hard for her dance partner to understand her!

Disco and pop music icon Donna Summer has died, according to TMZ. According to the website, the singer passed away after a battle with cancer and died in Florida. She was 63 years old.

Born LaDonna Adrian Gaines, Summer — a five-time Grammy Award winner known as the Queen of Disco — revolutionized dance music with her seminal hits “Love to Love You Baby” and “I Feel Love.” Those tracks established her career and were followed by a string of hits, including “Last Dance,” “Hot Stuff,” “MacArthur Park,” “Bad Girls” and “Dim All the Lights.”

Summer continued her career into the ’80s with hits like “She Works Hard for the Money” and “This Time I Know It’s for Real.” The first woman and the first African-American Artist ever to win a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance, for “Hot Stuff,” Summer was shortlisted for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but to date has never been inducted.

Summer was most recently seen performing with Seal in David Foster’s 2010 PBS special Foster & Friends and on America’s Got Talent, performing with former contestant

John Mayer can speak again! The talented guitarist, whose vocal problems forced him to cancel his spring tour and led him to record instrumental covers of Lana Del Rey songs, visited ‘Ellen’ today to chat about his new album ‘Born and Raised’ and his recent Botox injections — in his vocal cords, not his face.

Mayer elaborated on the theme of his recent single and video ‘Shadow Days,’ where he sings about maturing. He told Ellen about moving past the infamous 2010 Playboy interview that created an uproar for its sexually- and racially-charged language. “I lost my head for awhile,” Mayer acknowledged. “I did a couple of dumb interviews, and that kind of woke me up… It sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult.”

Part of growing up meant moving to Bozeman, Montana, which the singer did on a whim after enjoying the area during a road trip with friends. The move was all about being happy, he explained. “You get to a certain age where you prepare yourself for happiness, but sometimes you never remember to actually get happy. I remembered how to get happy.”

According to Us, Mayer also told the host about the treatment for his medical problems. “They cut this thing out of your throat and then they inject your vocal cords with Botox, which freezes your vocal cords so that this thing can heal without smacking up against the other side,” he said. “I just need more Botox next time.”

Dating is tough, and interpersonal communication can be even tougher. But the electronic age has brought with a whole new layer of angst — it seems nothing is more perplexing to a man than talking to a woman via text message.

A recent survey conducted by TSB Magazine, an online dating advice and men’s interest site, asked participants to review some of the most traditionally frustrating or confusing aspects of dating, approaching women, and romance, and then choose which issue was paramount.

Fully a third of men said confusion about when to send a text to a woman and what it should say was the most frustrating aspect of a budding romance, while others cited more traditional concerns like approaching women, having an in-person conversation and the awkwardness of an end-of-date kiss.

Of course, not everyone even had the chance to get that far — the survey also included the choices “having women see you are a friend, not a love interest” and “hitting it off with a woman only to have her shift her interest to someone else,” which garnered 10 percent and 6 percent of the votes, respectively.

When you’re buying sunscreen, do you look for words like ‘waterproof,’ ‘sweatproof’ and ‘sunblock?’ If so, don’t bother — they may not be as bulletproof as they seem.

Last year, the FDA mandated that sunscreen manufacturers had to stop using the above descriptions because no product is truly waterproof or sweatproof, and even the best sunscreens don’t completely block harmful rays. And although the ban was supposed to be in place this summer, makers now have until this winter to comply.

Products claiming to be ‘waterproof’ or ‘sweatproof’ will have to prove it with standard testing and state exactly how long a product will stay on the skin after being exposed to water or perspiration.

In addition, terms like ‘sunblock’ will be replaced with ‘broad spectrum’ as long as a product has an SPF rating of at least 15 and protects the user from both UVA rays (associated with skin cancer) and UVB rays (which can cause sunburn).

That said, sunscreens on the shelves are still effective and the FDA encourages their use, saying, “The ingredients in FDA-approved sunscreens marketed today have been used for many years, and FDA has no reason to believe these products are not safe.”

Kelly Clarkson showed off her new, trimmer figure at the ABC and Entertainment Weekly Upfront party in New York City this week. Wearing a spring-appropriate, strapless floral frock that accentuated her toned arms and smaller waist, Clarkson, 30, looked amazing.

The ‘Stronger’ singer also chose a flattering cut to show off her shape with this pretty dress. She has not admitted to any sort of diet or exercise regimen, but it’s clear that she has shed some excess pounds and it’s most visible in her arms and hips. Looking god, Kel!

She’s also growing out her formerly blunt bangs, it seems. It’s a move which flatters her face shape, since it’s a less severe style.

According to AOL Music, the singer and original ‘American Idol‘ was in town to promote her new reality show ‘Duets,’ which teams aspiring singers with established stars. The new show premieres on May 24. Clarkson loves her reality competitions, as she also mentored on the second season of ‘The Voice.’ She has spread her wings beyond the show that made her famous, and she has often maintained that she just wants to sing, as opposed to being a pop star.

Is Jennifer Lopez the most powerful celebrity in the world? Forbes magazine thinks so and has placed J.Lo atop its Celebrity 100 list, citing her “stunning career reinvention” as a judge on ‘American Idol’ and her renewed success as a performer.

Lopez pocketed $52 million over the past 12 months to beat out megastars like Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber and Tom Cruise for the No. 1 spot. Forbes credits Lopez for landing endorsement deals and perfume and clothing lines just a couple years after her career seemed to be in trouble following a series of album and movie failures.

The magazine noted that J. Lo has huge followings on Facebook and Twitter, making her one of the queens of social media, a factor that helped her achieve the No. 1 ranking. Unlike most Forbes lists, this one isn’t based strictly on income, but rather on a subjective analysis of fame, which the magazine defines as “media visibility in print, television, radio and online, plus social media power, which we measure by looking at each celebrity’s presence on Facebook and Twitter.”

Oprah places second, just ahead of Bieber, who graces the cover. The Biebs raked in a whopping $55 million, a figure that could go up next year with the release of his upcoming ‘Believe’ album. Forbes credits Bieber for his often-overlooked business dealings, noting that he has stakes in Spotify and Tinychat.

You have to hand it to our younger generation, they come up with the craziest things. Some little kids re-make the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” video as a tribute to the late Adam Yauch.

The video is on Vimeo.com and it’s really well done. They have guns, wigs, and mustaches, just like the original video. But they mostly do kids stuff, like going down slides, and playing kid games.

Long car trips can be hard for children. With summer comes road trips. Are you prepared?

“Are we there yet?” are words that every parent hates hearing!

It’s good to have tools ready to keep kids occupied. This is why I recently asked friends, family, and other experts how they keep kids occupied during long car trips.

Here are some great tools to help entertain your kids!

Babies and Toddlers:

• Bubbles
• Balls (soft)
• Tupperware
• A small plastic Mirror
• Puppets

Pre-School – 2nd Grade:

• Masking tape – (kids enjoy sticking it)
• Post-It notes (same idea)
• Metal tray with magnets
• Coloring books and crayons
• Story Books
• Play Doh
• Bubble Wrap

Older Kids:

• Digital camera (cheap cameras can provide hours of fun)
• MP3 (cheap with music and audio books)
