Fiscal Cliff Deal Signed by House Republicans – An Agreement Was Reached
Only 85 Republicans in the GOP-controlled House of Representatives signed the bill, but it was enough. House Speaker John Boehner and GOP vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan both signed the bill approved by the White House and Senate.
The United States now has a budget proposal that will reverse tax increases that went into effect New Year’s Day. The tax increases (or expiring tax cuts, actually) were going to raise taxes on ALL American families by hundreds of dollars a year — at least.
Some experts predict that the Republicans waited on purpose in order to say they LOWERED, not raised taxes. Democrats were in no hurry to pass a deal prior to today since they WANTED a tax increase.
Regardless of motives, a majority of Democrats and “enough” Republicans in the House supported the bill, called imperfect by many, to solve the country’s fiscal woes… for now.
