Three teen girls were rescued from the Yakima River after they were stranded on a sand bar overnight.

"These young ladies did the right thing. They told people where they were going and when they expected to return,” said a news release issued by the sheriff’s office. “When they found themselves on the wrong tributary in increasingly more hazardous conditions with log jams and night coming on, they settled in and waited for help.”

 

A rescue helicopter was used to reunite them with their parents.
