We're spoiled here in the Northwest. No, really, we are. Mountains, lakes, cities, the ocean, hiking, swimming, shopping, camping, theater, art: need I go on? We have so many beautiful places to take a mini-vacation within a reasonable drive. Needless to say, it's not always the easiest choice to make when deciding where to escape to for a bit. So, I'm going to help.

One of my favorite places for a mini-vacation is McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, OR. Troutdale is just 20 minutes out side of Portland, so if you're traveling from the Tri-Cities, you can get there in just around 3 hours. It has an incredible history (poor farm, retirement home...) and when you arrive you may be reminded of Kellerman's from Dirty Dancing. The grounds are extensive and contain rooms to stay, several bars & restaurants, a winery, distillery, large heated soaking pool & spa, 9-hole golf course and gardens galore! Getting married or having some other big event? They have spaces for events on site!

You can take the kids as they'll h ave fun exploring the grounds, playing golf, catching a movie, and splashing around in the soaking pool. But be warned, they'll be forced to put down the iPads and phones and PLAY OUTSIDE! However, if you need an adults only weekend, this is the spot. You can explore the bars, eat amazing food, get spa treatments, wine taste, get amazing McMenamins beers and ciders, and you can carry your drinks from one spot to another! They also have a live music throughout the year and  a summer concert series that is fantastic every year!

Word to the wise: BOOK EARLY! The Edgefield has no problems booking up especially Oktoberfest and St. Patrick's Day weekend. If my descriptions haven't hooked you, take a look at the photos and you'll be entranced with the beauty and fun of the place. And seriously, book now. You're welcome. :)
