When people find out I've been invited to act in "Grimm" and other local shows they're always impressed and jealous. Listen, it's not that hard. My coworker Raleigh on Hot 97.5 has done it numerous times. Here's the scoop.

I have a voice agent who encourages me to take acting gigs. Not everyone can get my kind of voice again. For others, getting on TV is sometimes a matter of knowing the right people, or being in the right place at the right time. If you keep your eyes open you'll occasionally see casting calls in newspapers.

But most Portland residents who want to be on TV sign up with Extras Only.

It's a Portland-based agency that specializes in supplying local filming crews with extras. Their actors end up in all the major local TV shows, but also occasional films that come to the Northwest. Because it's an agency, if you have a unique look you may even be invited to audition for a speaking role in a show or commercial!

Be warned, however, that being an extra is boring work. If you are paid (sometimes they fun experience and free food is all you get) it's a long day for that money. Personally, I've declined most offers because I love the radio DJ lifestyle. Working in front of a camera is a TOTALLY different lifestyle, and it's not for everybody. It's definitely not as glamorous as it sounds.
