Kennewick Police say they've been contacted by residents about a phone scam that seems to be originating in California.

The scam includes an automated voice telling the person who answered the phone that their internet had been compromised and to press 1 for more.

When you go down that rabbit hole, a real person comes on and says again the internet has been compromised and for a small fee it can be fixed. The resident is then asked if they are in front of their computer so the scammer tries to talk you into allowing another party to control your computer. DON'T DO IT.

Always be skeptical about random calls searching, ultimately, to get your money in one way, shape or form. Stay vigilant, and good day.
