A diver working in a shark tank in the Tacoma Zoo was bit by a 4 foot shark and had to go to the hospital. The diver was bit in the hand while diving with a dive safety officer but no reason was giving to what made the shark bite. Open diving has been suspended for now while a diving board reviews the incident according to news reports.

The four foot long sandbar shark that bit the man will remain in the tank with 3 other sandbar sharks, blacktip reef sharks, nurse sharks, a sand tiger shark and a Japanese wobbegong shark. This was the first shark bite at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma since it was built in 1989.
