Man Defends Sunnyside Home With a Sword

No jokes about the pen being mightier than the sword.

In Sunnyside, a 42-year-old, 5’1” woman identified as Mickie Flores allegedly broke into 60-year-old Michael Reynold’s house, and he chased her from his home with a machete strike to the shoulder.

At 3:20 a.m. Reynolds called police reporting he armed himself with a sword and hid as two people entered his home. Earlier, Reynolds apparently chased Flores from his home with a machete, swatting her with the flat side of the blade. Neighbors called it in, and Reynolds was arrested at the time for fourth-degree assault and brandishing a dangerous weapon. Police say he brought out the weapon because he thought Flores ripped him off.

On Tuesday afternoon, detectives located Flores who, after giving her statement and being treated, was released from the hospital.

The case is currently being reviewed with the Yakima County Prosecutors Office.  It is unclear what charges will be filed.
