A Carmichael Middle School student was running in gym class at Fran Rish Stadium when he collapsed in a seizure and had no pulse. The gym teacher began CPR and a vice principal experienced in CPR arrived just minutes later. Ambulances were out at other calls so no EMTs were available to respond. Richland firefighters came instead and used a defibrillator to regain a pulse. When an ambulance did arrive, the student was stable.

The boy's parents are thanking the school staff for responding so quickly and beginning CPR until first responders arrived.
The firefighters say the sooner a defibrillator can be used the higher the chances of survival. Richland Fire & Emergency Services went to Facebook on Thursday to plead with people to learn CPR and carry defibrillators when they can, and at least know how to use them.

Now in Spokane the boy is alert and prepping for surgery. Doctors and nurses say it is a miracle he survived and a second miracle he's not in a coma.
