According to the Oregon Health Authority: "people should avoid contact with the ocean and nearby creeks at Rockaway Beach due to high levels of fecal bacteria".

The bacteria can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses, according to the OHA.

Everyone, especially children and elderly people, should avoid the water until the OHA lifts the advisory.

There is no health risk for people who visit the beach, as long as they avoid the water.
