Police had to fire their guns at a suspected robber as he was trying to get away in Tacoma on Sunday night.

Police spotted a vehicle in a parking lot that was wanted in connection with a previous robbery. Police tried to stop the suspect but he sped away and police chased him on a short pursuit.

During the pursuit, the suspect drove his car directly at officers and that caused them to fire their guns at him as he slammed into a patrol car, according to news reports. The suspect was not struck by bullets the police fired.

The man was taken into custody shortly after and taken to the hospital for injuries related to the crash.

After being released from the hospital he was arrested and held on suspicion of first-degree assault and felony eluding.

Police are not sure if the man arrested was connected to the robbery.

Both police officers are under administrative leave which is normal in this situation.

The case is under investigation.
