Bainbridge Island Police say a man who opened fire on officers responding to calls in Eagle Harbor around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night was fatally wounded when he raised his rifle as SWAT officers approached after an hours-long standoff.

It is unclear how many officers fired their weapons. No one else was injured. Ferry service was temporarily suspended Saturday night as a precaution.

The man's identity has not been released and the Washington State Patrol is heading the investigation into the shooting.
