I grew up listening to the radio, in an era when you couldn't just dial up a song anytime you wanted. You were at the mercy of your local DJ.

You had to sit by the radio with a tape recorder, and when a song came on that you liked, you pressed "record," hoping to grab the song in its entirety. The only issue was that at times the disc jockey's voice covered over your song. For me that didn't matter, though -- it just made the mix tape more interesting. I dedicate this blog to the various songs that have come and gone, but will forever remain in that Walkman of the past.

The best line of today's lost 90's classic is easily "magenta feelings take up shelter
in the base of my spine sweet like a chic-a-cherry cola" and I'm sure that line is always messed up by many of a karaoke singer.

I Want You from Savage Garden had that great throwback feel to the carefree 80's where you'd put this song in the cassette deck and cruise when it hit the radio waves in the summer of 1996.

Savage Garden hailed from Australia and broke up in 2001 after their follow-up albums failed to catch the spirit of their debut album from 1996. They did have some massive hits for a few years like "I Knew I Loved You" and "Truly Madly Deeply" which kept them in the limelight for awhile.

I'm a big fan of Savage Garden and after the grunge years it was nice to get some pop sensibilities back on the radio.

They didn't last long but Savage Garden had some songs that if they came on the radio today, you'd still sing along too.
