Local departments and the Washington State Patrol are practically screaming their message: "HELP WANTED"! In fact, the WSP revealed it's having trouble with retention because existing officers are being worked too much since there aren't enough people to cover the shifts! Why is this happening? Simple answer is fewer people want those great jobs.

Far fewer young people are entering police academy than just 20 years ago, say the Yakima police force. That's reducing job satisfaction for people currently on the job since they don't see new people replacing their retiring coworkers. So if you know a kid interested in this career path, give them encouragement! They're needed!
