Say Goodbye to Plastic Shopping Bags at Fred Meyer Soon

No, it's not going to happen tomorrow, or even the next day. But in the near future, all Fred Meyer stores will stop utilizing plastic grocery shopping bags.

Kroger Foods is the parent company of Fred Meyer, QFC and numerous other chains. They oversee about 2,800 stores nationwide. Plastic bags went away at the Fred Meyer stores in Portland and Oregon several years ago. But now the rest will follow.

The announcement came this week from Kroger.

According to various sources, Kroger hopes to be completely plastic free by 2025. There's no exact timetable set for Tri-Cities and other venues, but it will be coming.

Retail stores in Seattle were banned from using what are called single-use plastic bags in 2012, and now plastic straws are going away.  Many Kroger stores have already stopped using the well known bags, but now every store they oversee will discontinue the practice.

This includes the Fred Meyer Stores in Tri-Cities and other surrounding areas.
