17-year-old Sheila Rosenberg died in a 2011 car crash. Her boyfriend of the same age was driving and also died. Police estimate they were traveling at 99 mph.
Her family holds the school partially responsible because the teens had been drinking at a party... at her basketball coach's house... after midnight... at which the coach (age 22) supplied the alcohol.
Suggesting the school district was responsible for the actions of the coach, the family sued for wrongful death.
But a state appeals court ruled in the district's favor this week saying it cannot be responsible for an employee's behavior when it did not authorize, or even know of the behavior.
