Remember when Kadlec Regional Medical Center was purchased by Providence Health & Services last year? Well, the nursing staff's 3-year contract is up for renegotiation and this is the first year the union is facing off against the new owner. You may have seen the yellow signs in yards around Tri-Cities urging support for nurses.

According to recent media reports, the hospital is seeking to change policies regarding sick days and paid-time off. Nurses also feel staffing levels are inadequate, making it difficult for people to get the rest and meal breaks they're entitled to. Providence has said it disagrees with how the union is characterizing the issues.

Negotiations are continuing this week and like the Pasco School District negotiations, it is possible a strike may occur, but hopefully both sides reach a resolution soon.
