If you’re a master hunter seeking community service hours for certification, the state Fish & Wildlife office needs your help. They’re looking for volunteers to shot deer with rubber bullets.
It’s for the farmers. Hundreds of deer nibble on crops in the wee hours of the morning potentially destroying millions of dollars of product. The rubber bullets chase the deer away and discourage them from returning. If an ATV just chases them around they’ll return. A sharp shooter is needed to hit the deer – but not kill them – so they learn their lesson.
Because this work is “on call” the Fish & Wildlife people need a long list of volunteers to guarantee someone will be able to come out when a herd is spotted in a field. Who knew?
