While contestants fainted left and right during the audition rounds and during Group Week in Hollywood, Phillips’ medical malady was not due to stress from the show. He was hospitalized for a pre-existing condition: kidney stones. We’ve never had ‘em ourselves, but by all accounts, they are supposedly one of the most painful things a body can endure.

Tonight (Feb. 29) marked the second live performance episode of ‘American Idol‘ Season 11. All the girls performed this evening, with only half able to go through to next week. It was another mixed bag of talent, with country gals and torch singers sharing the stage. We also tried to keep track of how many times Randy Jackson said “Yo” but it was futile. It’s like every other word.

On this special, Sunday night, post-NFC championship game edition of ‘American Idol,’ the producers hit San Diego, the So Cal city where the whether is always nice, to mine some talent.
