Smells are tightly connected to memory so certain smells instantly take us back to childhood. For me, it's grape smells -- like air fresheners, beverages, popsicles. For Stacy Lee it's school smells like rubber cement and jars of paste.
A lot of parents are doing spring cleaning and they've got boxes and boxes of kid art from pre-school or elementary school. How much of that do YOU save? And what about baby booties? Hand prints? Macaroni necklaces? Does anyone bronze baby shoes?
When I was little, things were so structured and stiff -- there was no room for creativity. It seems to me that creativity and intuitive thinking are encouraged far more now days then when I was young. Teachers that empower children to think out of the box and think for themselves are worth their weight in gold. My kids had some really great teachers growing up and I think it helped shape them into the wonderfully creative beings they are today!
