This morning we learned it's a trend in schools for teachers to encourage the children to use their first names. How do you feel about that?
One reasoning we heard is teachers are tired of being responsible for teaching kids respect and other virtues. It's the parents' job and the teachers are tired of spending time and energy on it. Allowing everyone to call them their first name skips those battles and lets them get back to work.

Another reasoning is Mrs., Ms. and Miss are sexist titles distinguishing a woman by her marital status. It doesn't make sense to abolish the terms for women but still call men "Mr. Smith." This is a debate in Britain right now. Many educators want the terms abolished while others are demanding titles of respect be preserved.

What do you think?
