Things That Make You Go Hmmm: Costco Checking Reciepts on Your Way Out!
I went shopping at Costco a few days ago, and as I was waiting in line to get out... of the store, (through the door where they are diligently checking everyone's receipts), it occurred to me that Costco is the only store where they do that!
And it made me wonder...WHY?
Why does Costco do that?. They can't possibly add up in their heads all the groceries in your basket right?, So what exactly are they checking for?
So I asked.
They said basically it's to keep people from using an old receipt and walking out with a cart full of groceries that they hadn't paid for. But, seriously? do people do that? If so, then why don't other stores need to do that as well?
The man also kindly said that they want to make sure we weren't "over charged" accidentally. How, I imagined could they possibly tell THAT? Unless they were to scrutinize each receipt and know all the prices of everything!
It occurred to me in that moment that It is kinda weird that we all just do that as if it's a normal thing and should be done. But, I still think it's weird. It makes no sense to me, and it seems terribly inconvenient when I'm in a hurry (which I always seem to be) and I want to just dash out of the store but I have to wait until the eleven people in front of me all get their receipts checked before mine.
In their defense they are pretty quick at it! Which is also why I wonder why they find it so important to mark with their highlighter down your receipt! It's a glance and a quick swipe with their high lighter pen and your okay to leave the store!
I don't know, I love Costco, so I put up with it. But yea...it's one of those things that make you go "Hmmmmm"
