Homes and businesses are being destroyed by a fast moving wild fire in Wenatchee. Authorities say at least 1000 people have fled due to the dangerous situation.

The fire began yesterday and had scorched over 3,000 acres. Here's the latest report from our media partner KNDU:

Authorities say at least a thousand people have fled their homes as a fast-growing wildfire burns in central Washington.

The Chelan County Emergency Management office says that about a dozen structures - mainly houses - have been destroyed in the city of Wenatchee.

Spokesman Rich Magnussen says that the blaze sparked Sunday afternoon was still burning out of control early Monday morning.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources is now estimating the Sleepy Hollow Fire to be about 3,000 acres in size. Officials do not know what started it.

Hundreds of firefighters from across Washington are on the scene and more are headed there.

He says Sunday's temps of at least 108 degrees, tinder dry brush and strong winds helped fuel the fire.

Late reports put the blaze at about 2.6 square miles, but Magnussen says they won't have a better idea of the growing blaze until daylight.

Officials say that there have been no reports of serious injury.
