Kelly Clarkson showed off her new, trimmer figure at the ABC and Entertainment Weekly Upfront party in New York City this week. Wearing a spring-appropriate, strapless floral frock that accentuated her toned arms and smaller waist, Clarkson, 30, looked amazing.

The ‘Stronger’ singer also chose a flattering cut to show off her shape with this pretty dress. She has not admitted to any sort of diet or exercise regimen, but it’s clear that she has shed some excess pounds and it’s most visible in her arms and hips. Looking god, Kel!

She’s also growing out her formerly blunt bangs, it seems. It’s a move which flatters her face shape, since it’s a less severe style.

According to AOL Music, the singer and original ‘American Idol‘ was in town to promote her new reality show ‘Duets,’ which teams aspiring singers with established stars. The new show premieres on May 24. Clarkson loves her reality competitions, as she also mentored on the second season of ‘The Voice.’ She has spread her wings beyond the show that made her famous, and she has often maintained that she just wants to sing, as opposed to being a pop star.

I stumbled upon this video from Youtube. I think it’s awesome because you wouldn’t have that line from the strap on your back! Now, I think they need to do this with bras… so you can wear a halter type top or a tank and not have straps show.

It was hot yesterday and that reminded me to find my swimsuit. Swimwear is a funny thing because has got to be the most personal thing we wear all year. As problematic as that is, we also love for our things to be personal, or rather extensions of our personality. When my wife can’t find something she really likes, she makes her own.  That got me thinking, if women can’t find a bathing suit they like, can they make their own? I discovered on YouTube that many have. Some even recycle old clothing like T-shirts and leggings! I’d be wary of using a T-shirt, however, since “wet T-shirt” is not a phrase usually used to market bathing suits. And sorry to be a wet blanket, but one of the DIY experts I found discouraged people from using old towels. It seems like an obvious choice, but apparently wearing a wet towel for hours is not at all comfortable. It also becomes heavy and sags. Check out these five creative and innovative ideas for making your own swimsuit:

Tamisha Glashen is not the best public speaker, but she’s easy to follow and has great ideas.

Here’s Tamisha again; similar style, but this one is a REALLY cool idea. She takes shiny leggings she doesn’t want anymore and uses the already-sewn portions to cut the sewing time in half! Leggings sometimes come in colors that go out of style, but anything goes as swimwear, right?

Here’s Tamisha AGAIN (come on, she’s got good ideas). In this one she tells you how to get a swimsuit pattern that will perfectly fit you without having to buy a real sewing pattern.

OK, here’s someone new. It’s all visual and the seamstress is moving a little too fast for my liking, but you get the idea. The music makes me feel like I’m at a weird European rave for DIY sewing fans. And the finished product does not appear to fit all that comfortably, but the end result is a more traditional bikini than what Tamisha was doing.

Here’s the T-shirt one. I think it’s very clever.

Mitchell Guist, who starred on the History Channel reality show ‘Swamp People,’ passed away on Monday while loading a boat on Louisiana’s Belle River.

According to reports, Guist suffered a seizure and fell down. It is unclear if trauma from the fall killed him, or if his death was a result of a medical condition.

“We are extremely saddened to report that our friend and beloved member of the ‘Swamp People’ family, Mitchell Guist, has passed away earlier today,” The History Channel said in a statement Monday. “Mitchell passed on the swamp, doing what he loved. We appreciate your respect for the Guist family’s privacy and hope you join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to his brother, Glenn, and the rest of the Guist family.”

Mitchell and Glenn Guist joined the cast of the hit reality show in its second season. They were known for their long white beards, good nature and their ability to live off the swamp land they’d called home for their entire lives. Mitchell Guist would have turned 48 on Friday. Jessica Simpson is sure to have beautiful baby photos with Maxwell Drew, born May 1 — between her own flawless face and her hot hubby’s good looks, how could she not? The kid hit the genetic jackpot! But will her new daughter’s first photos be profitable, too?

You bet, but not for as much as some other stars. The Daily Mail reports that Simpson sold the rights to Maxwell’s first photos for a cool $800,000. That’s a ton of money for most of us, but comparative chump change in the world of celebrity babies. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt raked in a whopping $11 million for photos of their twins, Vivienne and Knox, while fellow reality TV judge Jennifer Lopez took in $6 million for the first pics of her and Marc Anthony’s adorable twins Max and Emme.

Maxwell Drew’s photos, like the other famous tots’, will appear in PEOPLE. If you’re wondering why there’s such a difference in Simpson’s baby’s payday from the previous celebs, keep in mind that Simpson’s fiance and Maxi’s dad, Eric Johnson, barely garners a blip on the fame radar, whereas Marc Anthony is a Grammy winner and Brad Pitt is, well, Brad Pitt. When two stars get together to make a spawn, there’s more money and interest than when only one parent is famous.

Don’t feel too bad for Jess, though. The starlet, who, like any normal person, gained a bit of pregnancy weight, signed a deal with Weight Watchers to shed it all — for a nice $3 million! Not only that, but her fashion line is said to have pulled about $1 billion, so our girl’s laughing all the way to the bank — and to Etsy, where she’s reportedly been buying some accessories for her sure-t0-be-stylish little girl.

Alanis Morissette‘s first album in four years, ‘Havoc and Bright Lights,’ is scheduled for an August release, but fans don’t have to wait that long to get their first taste of the new music. The first single from the record, ‘Guardian,’ was released online this week.

‘Guardian’ features a sunny melody highlighted by piano and electric guitar. Morissette hasn’t lost her unique ability to turn a phrase. She sings, “You in the chaos, feigning sane / You who has pushed beyond what’s humane / Them as the ghostly tumbleweed / And where was your watchman then?”

On the catchy hook, Morissette promises to look after a special someone — perhaps her one-year-old son? She sings, “I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian / I’ll be your warrior of care, your first warden / I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand / The greatest honor of all as your guardian.” ‘Guardian’ is short, poppy and a welcome return for the Canadian superstar.

‘Havoc and Bright Lights’ is Morissette’s eighth album and first since she left Maverick Records for Collective Sounds. The singer, who turns 38 next month, has recorded five straight Top 10 albums in the U.S., starting with 1995′s ‘Jagged Little Pill,’ which sold 14.7 million copies to become one of the highest-selling albums by a female artist in history.

There have only been 15 unassisted triple plays in Major League history. This makes the instant inning killer the rarest play in all of baseball.

Although they don’t keep track of such things, it stands to reason there have been more unassisted triple plays than that on the Little League level — just given the sheer number of games played.

Nevertheless, you could watch a lot of Little League and never see a triple play, let alone an unassisted one. But we’re showing you one right here.

That heads-up shortstop is six-year-old Ross Bernath of Sandy Springs, GA. The recording was actually shot by the father of opposing player “James,” who couldn’t make it back to third base in time to prevent the rare play.

The clip went viral pretty quickly and was featured as ESPN SportsCenter’s number one play of the day on Wednesday. This thrilled little Ross, who watches SportsCenter regularly.

“He saw it this morning on ESPN and he’s been smiling ear to ear,” Ross’ dad told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He’s pretty pumped.”

An 18-year old with glasses named Noah from South Carolina is the latest to have a viral video set to LMFAO‘s ‘Sexy and I Know It,’ but he may also be the best one yet. The Dave Matthews Band fan has a number of pop covers on his YouTube account, but this one is by far the most creative and least expected. It’s completely different from anything Redfoo and Sky Blu have come up with yet.

“This time it’s something a little different from what I usually do,” Noah admitted. “I’ve secretly wanted to cover this song for a really long time, but never knew how I was going to arrange it. I’ve finally figured out how I’m going to arrange it, and it’s a lot different from the original version of it,” he chuckled. “So here’s ‘I’m Sexy and I Know It’ by LMFAO … this is happening. I’m doing it.”

Noah, who describes his sound as “Americana acoustic,” says on his Facebook page, “I’m not into a lot of effects and tricks. Just good melodies and lyrics with something to say.” While LMFAO’s tracks aren’t much deeper than the puddles after a passing shower, they’re still a good time, and combined with Noah’s powerful pipes, they manage to pack a punch.

He really wasn’t joking about how different the song is from the original track. Noah transforms the goofy hip-pop anthem into a bluesy acoustic number that’s part barn burner, part bedroom jam. This guy can sing his butt off! Though comparing his version to the original is like comparing apples and oranges, we have to say it may be just as good — in a completely different way.

His dad is Staff Sergeant Jeremy Cooney, and when he left for Afghanistan, Michael couldn’t walk because he has cerebral palsy.

Michael learned to walk while his dad was serving oversees…only the family decided not to tell Jeremy until he came home.

Kelly Clarkson was so moved by the cancer patients (and nurses) at Seattle Children’s Hospital filming a video of themselves singing the empowering lyrics to her smash hit ‘Stronger’ that she recorded a video response. How sweet of her, right?

In the video, a visibly touched Clarkson gushes, “That was so amazing. It made my day. Everyone has been watching and talking about it. It is so beautiful and wonderful. I can’t wait to meet you. It was the coolest thing to watch.”

The patients and hospital admin are beyond stoked that Clarkson was aware of their video and that she taped her own message for them. There is footage of one patient talking about how she and friends would blast the song and sing along in the car.

We were moved by the spirit and resilience of the patients who made this video and we give major props to Kelly Clarkson for taking time out of her day to acknowledge how her music helped these kids. It’s a heartwarming clip in every sense.

Let’s hope Clarkson stops by the hospital to sing the song and give the kids their own private concert.

This morning, legendary hairstylist Vidal Sassoon passed away in his home at the age of 84, according to a Los Angeles police department spokesperson. The renowned salon kingpin died of “apparent natural causes.”

At 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police were called to Sassoon’s home in Bel Air. “When officers arrived, there were family members at the residence,” said spokesperson Kevin Maiberger. Word is Sassoon also suffered from leukemia.

An icon of the hair industry, Sassoon led an incredible life. As a child, the British native spent several years in a London orphanage after his father left and his mother couldn’t afford to take care of him. Later, his mother apprenticed him to a local barber to fulfill her dream of her son working in a barber shop.

Those humble beginnings led to the nearly unrivaled career of a man who created the classic bob hairstyle during the 1960s, a very popular line of hair care products, a range of hair care tools and a chain of chic salons. Sassoon made styling hair an art form.

We’ll also remember Vidal for his hair care product ads from the ’80s which gave us the classic slogan, “If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.” Remember the hairstyling legend with some classic ads below.
