Walla Walla Man Makes Money Playing Violin With Unicorn Mask
A Walla Walla man has discovered his calling: busking and delivering musical telegrams with a unicorn mask over his head.
Ben MacSpadden works in a book store and was raised by a music teacher (he once practiced for 3,000 consecutive days in elementary school). After finding a piece of a Halloween costume during a move, he decided to start busking in downtown Walla Walla just to see people's reactions.
Today he's building his own business: Uni-Grams. He'll visit your friend or family member in his unicorn mask, deliver a message and play songs on his violin for $10-20.
He got some good business during the holidays, but is trying to become a fixture in Walla Walla's cultural scene -- not unlike the firebreathing, kilt-wearing, bag-pipe playing, unicycle-riding Darth Vader in Portland, Oregon.
MacSpadden said he was inspired to try busking after listening to TED Talk by punk rocker Amanda Palmer about her experiences busking.
