Warning Don’t Eat Dungeness Crab Here’s Why

A new food alert warning coming from the California Department of Health...this time it's Dungeness & Rock Crab caught in waters between Oregon and Santa Barbara, here's why

The culprit: Domoic acid and this type of poisoning can be pretty awful.

According to KVEW:

Symptoms of domoic acid poisoning typically begin within 30 minutes to 24 hours of eating toxic seafood, the CDPH said. They include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, headache, dizziness and confusion.

In severe cases, symptoms could include difficulty breathing, seizures, coma and death.

 

Neither cleaning, nor cooking these foods will rid them of the harmful acid.
