After getting their diplomas, a lot of college graduates decide to head to the big city to try and make it big.

The question that arises, though, is which city is the right one?

Well, after four (or five, or – gulp! – six) years of life on campus, 2013 college grads may want to pack their tassels and big dreams and head for the nation’s capital. Washington, DC is one of the Rent.com’s 10 best cities for new college grads, based on which metropolises offer the best chance to find housing and a decent salary.

The list is not in any particular order, but Washington certainly offers hope in the way of earning power, with the mean annual income hovering around $63,000. That’s offset somewhat by the $1,600 median price for a one-bedroom apartment.

When it comes to housing costs, it’s tough to beat Houston, Atlanta and Raleigh, North Carolina, all of which boast a median price of $800 for a one-bedroom pad.

And in terms of finding work, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota is the place to go, with an unemployment rate of 5.1%, the lowest of the 10 cities on the list.
