By now you've likely heard of the new smart phone app that lets you take a picture of a math problem and instantly get the answer (along with an optional step-by-step tutorial on solving it). It was downloaded two million times in the first 24 hours. Teachers are saying it may drastically change how math is taught in schools. Would you let your kid use it? Tell us below:
When I was in school the correct answers to odd-numbered problems were in the back of the book. This allowed you to cheat half the questions, if you wanted, but it also allowed you to judge how well you were understanding the material. Teachers just assigned twice as many problems to compensate for the cheating.
To be honest, I tried not to cheat the first semester, and then I never even TRIED to solve the problem the second semester.
I just got too busy and stressed. Learning because a secondary priority to getting the best grade in the least amount of time.
So my feeling is the new PhotoMath app is OK with adult supervision to make sure they're really watching how the problem is broken down. What about you?
