Wyclef Jean's Yéle Haiti charity organization is no more after years of scrutiny and misappropriation of funds. The New York Times is reporting that the operation closed its doors last month, leaving unpaid debts and broken promises behind.

At the heart of the problem is the $16 million in donations, in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake in 2010, that allegedly paid for Wyclef's travel expenses, an alleged mistress, performance fees, attorney costs and a building project that never came to fruition.

The Times also reports that the organization is currently being investigated by the Attorney General State of New York, which also found improper handling of funds including a $24,000 tab for a car service and $30,763 to fly Lindsay Lohan to a Chicago fundraiser that raised $66,000.

Jean's attorney Avi Schick posted on a message on Jean’s Facebook page which reads:

"Wyclef Jean helped pay for the independent audit of Yele because of his commitment to both the organization and the people of Haiti, and while most of its findings do not in any way relate to him he is nevertheless committed to ensuring that things are made right."

Jean's rep Melanie A. Bonvicino adds:

"At present my client Wyclef Jean and his legal team are working assiduously to resolve any pending issues with respect to Yele prior to its closing, as Mr. Jean continues his tireless commitment to his ‘beloved’ country by remaining steadfast in his efforts to encourage the global community to join him in supporting ongoing relief efforts in Haiti."
