A Pasco boy has the opportunity of a lifetime: travel to Australia with the USA Karate Team in May.

Devon Brown is a remarkable 12-year-old with skills that have attracted the attention of the USA Karate team! He's been invited to be one of a select group of individuals in various age groups to travel to Melbourne, Australia to compete against the best martial arts athletes in the world. He is one of a only a handful from the entire Pacific Northwest to be chosen.

He has competed nationally and won a number of matches in his age group. He and his sensei, or coach, Dave Lybbert of Walla Walla have worked together to sharpen his skills.

Last summer in the national Junior Olympics he brought home several medals including a bronze and a 4th place finish in various events, meaning he is one of the top in the entire U.S. He has won numerous other regional and national awards as well.

His family and supporters are trying to raise the money to help send him to Australia for some invaluable competition and experience. Devon is a very determined boy. He has a 4.0 GPA in middle school and still finds time to play lacrosse and several musical instruments.

A website has been set up to help raise funds to make this trip possible. Please take a few minutes to check it out and maybe help this boy represent the Tri-Cities internationally.

Last summer a few martial artists from the Northwest competed strongly, and even won some medals, in karate and judo at the London Olympics.
