Jim Henson’s Son Says Steve Whitmire Made ‘Outrageous Demands’ and Flattened Kermit’s Character
The Muppets have been mired in a sort of scandal recently, started by the firing of Steve Whitmore, who had been the voice and hands of Kermit the Frog since the untimely death of Jim Henson in 1990. Now, Henson’s son Brian Henson has offered some more insight into the matter.
It’s Man Against Nature and Flaming Bears in the ‘Only the Brave’ Trailer
When it comes to natural disaster movies, the bigger, the better. San Andreas was delightful in its boorish stupidity, The Perfect Storm is a stone-cold classic, and don’t even get me started on how excited I am for Geostorm. Man against nature is the oldest plot in history, which is why it’s about darn time we saw Josh Brolin play a firefighter.
Warner Bros. Is Making Another ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ Reboot
Invasion of the Body Snatchers is an undeniable sci-fi classic, the O.G. one-of-us-in-this-room-isn’t-human narrative, which is probably why it’s been remade so many, many times. The original 1954 novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney inspired the 1956 Don Siegel film, which was then remade in 1978, in 1993, and agin in 2007 with Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman (The Invasion). So it should come as no surprise that Warner Bros. is making plans to reboot the story for the modern era.
Jack Black’s Hilarious Sundance Comedy ‘The Polka King’ Is Coming to Netflix
Netflix has risen to the top of the pile when it comes to festival season acquisitions, the streaming giant cleaning up at this year’s Sundance, and poised to do the same at TIFF after causing Cannes to go into a tizzy. One of the funniest and most rave-reviewed films out of Sundance this year was Jack Black’s The Polka King, which starred Black as real-life Pennsylvania polka legend Jan Lewan, and Netflix has just snatched it up.
Robert Downey Jr. Shares a Photo of the ‘Beard Bros’ and ‘Science Bros’ From ‘Infinity War’ Set
Sometimes Avengers: Infinity War feels like it’s just an excuse for a bunch of actors to have a giant get-together, film it, and add in some special effects later to make them all look cool. Like the shawarma post-credits scene from the first Avengers, but for two-plus hours. Today on set, two scientists, a doctor, and a librarian walked into a La Croix commercial… and made sure to snap a pic.
Michelle Monaghan’s Julia Is Coming Back for ‘Mission: Impossible 6’
Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt won’t be the only familiar face returning for Mission: Impossible 6: Michelle Monaghan’s Julia, Hunt’s wife and a Mission: Impossible mainstay from the third film all the way to Ghost Protocol, is coming back to the series.
Cyndi Lauper Is Writing the Music for Broadway’s ‘Working Girl’
Hot off her success with the Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots, Cyndi Lauper is at it again on Broadway, this time lending her musical talents to a stage adaptation of 1988’s Working Girl.
The Cast for Steven Spielberg’s Pentagon Papers Movie Is Incredible
Steven Spielberg’s Pentagon Papers movie, recently retitled The Papers (before it was The Post), has one of the most ridiculously stacked casts in recent memory — and it just recruited more members. Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford, Zach Woods, and Pat Healy have signed up help out Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep investigate America’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
‘Jurassic World 2’ Taking a Cue From ‘F8’ for an ‘Epic’ Submarine Scene
It’s as if Oprah burst through the doors of Universal Studios and started screaming, “YOU get a submarine, and YOU get a submarine, and YOU get a submarine!!!” Actor Kevin Layne recently revealed that the upcoming Jurassic World sequel, much like The Fate of the Furious, is going to have an “epic” submarine sequence. And I’m willing to bet it features at least one dinosaur.
New ‘Baywatch’ Trailer Highlights Priyanka Chopra and Her Fabulous Hair
Dwayne Johnson’s Baywatch movie is almost upon us, and as an extra incentive, the film debuted a new trailer today that focuses on Priyanka Chopra’s extremely fashionable villain.
Professional Clowns Are Concerned About How the ‘It’ Movie Will Affect Their Careers
There are two groups who are going to feel personally victimized about the new It movie: young children, because Pennywise eats them, and real-life professional clowns. It’s no secret that most people are afraid of clowns — that’s the whole reason Pennywise appears as a clown in Stephen King’s novel in the first place. But folks who make their living as clowns are afraid the new movie will only exacerbate those fears and make it much more difficult to land grade school birthday party gigs.
‘Frozen’ Originally Had a Completely Different Ending, Different Elsa Characterization
It’s no secret that Disney movies, especially their fairytale retellings, go through lots of revisions. It’s not enough for these stories to stick to their Grimm roots anymore — audiences are much more responsive to updated versions with characters who speak to modern sensibilities. Frozen was no different, originally having an ending that was totally different from the one the final cut ended up with.
