Officially it's known as Oregon HB 2597. To drivers, it now means in Oregon you can only use a hands-free device while operating a motor vehicle in ANY fashion.

We thought we'd remind you, because if you are seen even holding a cellphone or other device while driving, you will get whacked for $260! And that's for the first offense.

The bill was passed by the Oregon legislature last summer. However, business owners and others who work in the driving or delivery field say the new law is going to make it much more difficult for their work. A previous loophole in the law allowing for limited use by delivery and other such drivers is now no longer in effect.

The only drivers allowed to use the phone while working are emergency and first responders, police, utility workers, school bus drivers and people involved in logging operations.
