The Hanford Site facebook page released a brief video showcasing stabilization activities inside Tunnel 2 at the Plutonium Uranium Extraction (PUREX) Facility. The project is approximately 14% complete.

Since placement of engineering grout began Oct. 1 of this year, crews laid about 5,400 cubic yards of grout - out of an estimated 43,000 cubic yards needed to fill the 1,688 foot-long tunnel. The video shows how crews safely place the grout and watch the progress inside the tunnel.

The PUREX facility operated from 1956 to 1972 and 1983 to 1988. It processed the vast majority of plutonium for the United States and reclaimed uranium for fuel rod production.
