Yogurt E.coli Outbreak Includes Benton County
I remember when I was a kid visiting my Grandma in Yakima. That woman loved her yogurt. This is back when yogurt was just yogurt...you added your own fruit if you wanted it. That's my recollection at least, because she always had a fridge full of plain yogurt. Naturally, when a kid sees an adult enjoying something that resembles ice cream, you have to ask for a bite. That was the last time yogurt touched my lips for years! Now I love it and so do most folks, I think.
But be warned, yogurt lovers, E. coli has found its way into PCC Community Market brand yogurt produced by Pure Eire Dairy, according to the Washington State Dept. of Health. There are 11 confirmed cases (so far only one in Benton County), including children, and 6 of those have been hospitalized. Watch for symptoms like diarrhea, stomach cramps, and blood in the stool. E.coli can be very serious and even cause death, so if you see any of these symptoms, seek medical attention right away.
