Maybe it's the new cooking robot under development for wide-scale retail in 2017, or maybe it's the fact that for the first time ever Americans are spending more in bars and restaurants than at the supermarket, but evidence is overwhelming: we don't like to spend time in the kitchen.

Financial firm Morgan Stanley has been tracking how much people spend going out vs. at the grocery store for 23 years. During that time they've seen a steady increase in people spending more going out and in 2015 it actually surpassed the amount at super markets! That has resulted in weak profits for grocery stores and surging sales for bars and eateries.

The reason for the switch is the emergence of Millennials into adulthood. People who graduated high school in or after 2000 are less likely to prepare their own food.

If their income is high enough, they may be able to afford the new robot supposedly under development for sale in 2017. For $14,000 you can supposedly install robot arms into your ceiling that will cook you hundreds of different meals.

But... you'll still have to go to the grocery store.
