A Richland High School 9th grade male student collapsed today (Friday) while running around outside the school with some friends during lunch. The friends ran to get help and two RHS staff members began administering CPR to the stricken student. While CPR was being administered, the athletic director arrived on the scene with an AED (automated external defibrillator) and administered an AED shock to the student. Paramedics arrived at the scene, continued CPR, and then transported the student to Kadlec Medical Center.

The latest word we have at 1:55 pm is that the student’s heart is working, but the student is not breathing on his own. The student is being flown to Seattle this afternoon and will be taken to Children’s Medical Center.
