Cement Truck, Animal Control Officer, Mini Van + More in Major Blue Bridge Wreck
Southbound traffic was completely halted for about an hour Thursday morning when roughly a dozen vehicles were involved in bumper-to-bumper collisions. A red, Tri-Cities Animal Shelter & Control Services officer vehicle was smashed between a mini-van and a cement truck.
According to Curt Cartier of KXRX FM, about a dozen vehicles were damaged in some way by the accident.
Tow trucks were needed to remove a light brown mini-van that had turned 180 degrees and was facing northbound. Its front had impacted the red Animal Control vehicle, which had a deployed air bag and was smashed from both ends. The rear was impacted by the grill of a large cement-mixer truck.
News partner KNDU is reporting multiple people were taken from the scene on stretchers and another one of the vehicles in the accident was also driven by a peace officer.
Tri-Cities Animal Control could not give information on the status of the driver or whether animals were in the back of the vehicle.
Once the tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles traffic flow resumed at around 10:30-10:45.
