Don't expect to see Christina Aguilera squaring off against Blake Shelton on The Voice anytime soon. The pop singer called the show a "churning hamster wheel."

Speaking to Billboard, Aguilera says the show was not what she thought she was signing up for prior to its start in 2011. The six-time coach didn't like the rules. "Especially as a female," she says. "You can’t wear this, can’t say that. I would find myself on that show desperately trying to express myself through clothing or makeup or hair. It was my only kind of outlet."

Quickly the 37-year-old says she learned that it seemed making great television was more important than finding music, but kept at until 2016 because the schedule was great for her kids. "It’s easy to get comfortable and cushy in the same place and not have to worry about uprooting your kids," she admits, referring to a 10-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter.

The bulk of the interview discusses Aguilera's upcoming Liberation album, expected on June 15. It's her first album since 2012.

While on The Voice Aguilera notched one winner and one runner-up in six seasons. Outside of Shelton and Adam Levine she's the most tenured coach. Most recently, Kelly Clarkson replaced her in the third seat position on the show. It's not clear who will coach Season 15 (if there is one) and it's not clear Aguilera will be excluded from the conversation. In a statement to People, a source for the show says the singer will always be family, and they're appreciative of all she did.
