Does A Kid Have To Say The Pledge Of Allegiance In Washington State?

A friend of mine posted a meme about how they wished the nation would go back to saying the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools.

I was unaware of the Pledge being taken out of public schools because I remember citing it daily in elementary school

I concede it's been decades since I've been in school. I consider myself a pretty patriotic person when it comes to our country but I also believe because of our great country, I've got no right to infringe on someone else not saluting the flag - to each their own - but forcing someone to do it - I'm against it wholeheartedly.

So I decided to see if this guy was right.

Do kids no longer say the Pledge of Allegiance at school?

I discovered that three states have no statute for saying the Pledge and those states include Wyoming, Vermont, and Hawaii.

47 other states have laws requiring students to cite the Pledge of Allegiance.

As you can see the Pledge of Allegiance is alive and well in our Washington State public schools so yes kids still cite the Pledge of Allegiance in Washington State.

The one law that does exist about the Pledge of Allegiance in Washington State is that “students not reciting the pledge shall maintain a respectful silence”

So my friend who posted the meme about wishing kids still said the Pledge of Allegiance obviously hasn't done their homework. As they say, don't believe everything you read on the internet.
