I always respected people who chose a mobile home. They're affordable, allowing money to go to savings, retirement accounts, investments, business startups, etc. Lately I've heard the opposite is true. What do you think?

Here's what I always thought:

  • low rent or low mortgage payment
  • easy to buy and sell = the freedom of a renter
  • Same square footage as a small house
  • With nice carpet, countertops, cupboards and appliances they're just as nice as a house.
But friends tell me the opposite is true. Any savings are lost because heating and cooling bills are higher. Park fees can be high. I'm not sure anymore. What do you think?
