Katy Perry Wins Spotlight Award at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards
Katy Perry was bestowed the Spotlight Award at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday in Las Vegas. The pop siren was recognized for her chart-topping achievement of five No. 1 hits within the past year, which ties the record set by the late Michael Jackson.
Perry’s five chart-topping hits are ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), ‘California Gurls’ (featuring Snoop Dogg), ‘Firework’ and E.T.’ (featuring Kanye West). All of the songs come from her double-platinum album ‘Teenage Album.’
The songbird humbly accepted the trophy despite feeling like she wasn’t worthy of the award. “I’m Incredibly honored to be chosen for this award, although I don’t compare at all [to Michael Jackson],” she told the crowd.
She then thanked all the important people who supported her career and music, including her record label, EMI, and the radio stations who played her songs. Perry also shouted out her gorgeous, glittering fans that she affectionately calls the Katy Kats.
As she was told to wrap it up, Perry thanked one last person who she truly loves and adore.
“The real hero is my grandmother who is 91 [years old] and from Las Vegas,” she said. “I can’t wait to do shots with you after this.”
